What We Do at Forres

Ride from Forres to Craigellachie

This ride from our house to Craigellachie is so stunning I am inspired to put it on the website as essentially a recommended self guided tour. Ideally a two day ride with a overnight stop at Craigellachie it could be done both ways in one day by strong cyclists, but best savoured over two days. It is a beautiful ride through woods, over hills and moors before decending to Craigellachie on the river Spey. It passes through Rafford, Dallas, Knockando, Cardhu ( visit the famous distillery ) Archiestown ( best kept village for many years ) and finally Craigellachie where there is an interesting cast iron bridge over the Spey which was built by Thomas Telford in 1814. The Highlander Inn has a truly fantastic range of Scotch AND Japanese whiskies. This as why we recommend an overnight stay!

Directions. Take the B9010 out of Forres and after about 5 miles take a minor road to the right signposted Dallas ( it doesn't go to Texas ) at Dallas turn right at the war memorial signposted Knockando and follow this road all the way to Knockando. Turn left at Knockando signposted Archiestown and Craigellachie ( B9102 ) After one and a half miles you come to Cardhu where whisky is distilled for The Johnnie Walker label. At Archiestown pause to admire this village and maybe take refreshment at the hotel. Continue four miles to Craigellachie.

If anyone wants advice/guiding or needs to hire bikes we can probably help. Also if an overnight stay is not wanted we could pick up a couple of people and bicycles from convenient points, Cardhu distillery, Archiestown hotel or Graigallechie Highlander hotel. We would obviously have to make a charge for services but it would not be a huge amount.
