Excursions in the Cairngorm National Park
Aviemore is the ski centre of the Highlands and is popular for walking all year round. Dating back to the 1600s it was brought to life as a resort in the 19th century.
Excursion 1. Visit Aviemore .


Walk in the Rothiemurchus forest and round the beautiful Loch an Eilein with its ruined castle on the Loch. Walking distance 5 km. About 2 hours. Visit Aviemore for lunch and then visit Boat of Garten or take a train ride on the Strathspey Steam Railway to Broomhill.


Excursion 2. Visit Boat of Garten to view Ospreys at Loch Garten and enjoy a forest walk.
Ospreys became extinct in Britain in 1916 but one pair bred here in 1954 and now there are around 200 pairs. One female obligingly has returned to the same nest for six years and can be viewed easily. Then on to Aviemore either by or own transport or take the option of a Steam Train instead (additional cost )with good views of the Cairngorm Mountains.


Excursion 3. Ascend Cairngorm by the funicular railway and lunch at the Ptarmigan restaurant.
There are wonderful views of Scottish Mountains including Ben Nevis on clear days.
Excursion 4. Visit Aviemore.

A longer walk in the Rothiemurchus forest with extensive views towards the majestic Cairngorm Mountains. Enjoy a picnic lunch in beautiful surroundings. Walking distance 9.1 km. About 4 hours. Free time to look at the Aviemore shops
